Reputable clinics in Kyiv have established this small European country as the go-to destination for egg donor treatments.

The reason why one ought to go to Ukraine if you are looking for an egg donor is that there is no age limit for women who want to undergo IVF procedures, not to mention that the costs of treatment are significantly lower than those in other European destinations and other popular destinations across the world.

Who is an egg donor?

An egg donor is basically a young woman, who at some point in her life, chooses to donate her eggs. This woman must meet various criteria so that she can give healthy biological material and minimize egg donation risks.

When she successfully donates her oocytes, they are either stored in an egg donor bank or fertilized immediately using an intended father or donor sperms.

In Ukraine, Egg donation is anonymous. This means that most clinics that undertake these procedures keep donor information private, and its access is only allowed to very few individuals.

For international patients, egg donors are identifiable under certain conditions. The donor must sign a voluntary consent so that her data can be disclosed to third parties.

Since there is no central registry of donors, women who want to donate their eggs can do so for as many times as they want.

One thing you need to note, however, is the fact that most clinics in Ukraine follow the ESHRE guidelines and European standards, which stipulate that a person should only donate her eggs maximum six times.

Since donors must be made to understand the implications that come with egg donation, Ukrainian law requires them to undergo a thorough psychological examination before the process begins.

Factually, Ukrainian law explicitly allows egg donation. However, this doesn't come without conditions. The law only allows egg donation from patients undergoing IVF, who have agreed to donate their surplus eggs, anonymous voluntary donors, and close relatives.

An egg donor is matched with a patient by their phenotype, which is simply visible characteristics. They include skin tone, height, weight, hair color, and many more. There are also other factors that can be put into consideration, which include blood type and genetic history.

There are those clinics that allow patient access to donor data, with consent from the donor. This information may include educational background, age, musical and athletic skills, hobbies, career, and a lot more. However, you need to know that there are those clinics that love to keep donor information private; thus, this is something you shouldn't expect from every clinic you visit. As well as be aware of those which just create such profiles as their “selling point”.

There are certain qualifications that one has to meet to qualify as an egg donor in Ukraine. They include:

  • Must be aged 18-35

  • Must have at least one biological child of her own, and must provide a proof before the egg donation process commences

  • Must be free from bad habits such as smoking and alcohol abuse

  • Should be healthy and not infected by any hereditary diseases

  • Must agree to undergo various mandatory medical examinations that rule out infectious diseases which include:

  1. Full body analysis

Proven egg donors are those, who have had successful egg donation experiences in the past. 'Successful' in this context means that the egg donor was involved in a program that resulted in a successful pregnancy, which later resulted in a live-birth.

When looking for an egg donor, therefore, it is recommended that you ask your IVF clinic or surrogacy agency to choose a proven egg donor. This will increase your chances of going home with a child you can call your own.

With a proven egg donor, intended parents are assured of high-quality eggs and a good response to hormonal stimulation. However, you need to remember that proven egg donors are on high-demand, and you may need to dig deeper into your pocket for you to get one.

Is the egg donor profile real?

Ukraine doesn’t have an egg donor database. Every agency or clinic has its own register, which cannot be shared in most cases. Therefore, the quality of egg donor selection and examination varies from agency to agency, or from clinic to clinic.

Egg donors’ pictures are normally appealing, and it is difficult to tell whether the people behind the pictures are real or fake.

To ensure that an egg donor profile is real, make sure you work with a reputable surrogacy agency. This agency will use various legal ways to give you confidence in your choice and might even go the extra mile and give you access to all the information you need about a donor.

The main reason why most people travel to Ukraine for egg donation treatment is that this country offers super-affordable rates. Here, egg donation costs around $2,000. Even though there are other costs that come into play, such as accommodation and travel, the cost of this process is still low, compared to other destinations.

Also, note that the cost might go up if you choose to work with proven egg donors. As long as you choose a professional surrogacy agency, you can rest assured that you will get the best services at the lowest rates. Therefore, endeavor to find a reputable agency as soon as now.

Thanks to the immense success rates that Ukraine has seen with its egg donation treatment programs and the fact that this country provides couples with an opportunity of parenthood at lower costs, this is the destination that should be at the top of your mind whenever you need to travel overseas for IVF treatment.
